How do you replace a bottom bracket on a garage door?

Garage Door Bottom Brackets would rust badly because of the water and salt. It is very common issue due to Canadian winter. When the brackets rust, fasten screws and bolts becomes loosen. The garage door cable would break at anytime.

Safety First. Do not attempt any garage door repairs unless you have all the proper tools and safety equipment.

Follow the steps to replace the broken part.

  1. Use a locking plier to seal the spring shaft to void its rotation. Alternatively, completely release the spring tension by unwinding all springs.

  2. Unscrew the cable drum and release the cable if the cable is not loosened yet.

  3. Unscrew the rust bottom bracket and take the bracket out of the garage door track, take out the cable and garage door roller as well.

  4. Replace the rust bracket and assemble back the cable and roller (if they are still OK).

  5. Put the new bracket back to the garage door, and make sure the garage door cable and roller are install back to the door track as well.

  6. Fasten the bracket screws and nuts.

  7. Connect back the head of cable back to the cable drum.

  8. Wind the spring and test the door after winding for balance.

  9. Adjust the spring to ensure the door has a nice balance status.
